The wind rustled through the leaves as Samuel walked through the yard sale, his shoulders slumped. He felt a profound sense of loss, a deep ache he couldn’t seem to shake. Then, he saw it. A familiar face, a friendly smile, though now worn and faded. It was Theodore, his first and truest friend.

He knelt, his hands trembling slightly as he picked him up. The worn fur felt strangely comforting against his skin. An emotion he hadn't felt in a long time filled him. He looked up, his gaze meeting the woman's.

“How much?” he asked, the word escaping his lips. She quoted a price, and he paid it, reaching for his wallet with a strange, new urgency. He knew what he’d do first. He would get the old sewing kit and start fixing him up.
