Rain hammered against the windows of the art gallery, mirroring the frantic pulse in Clara’s chest. The gallery lighting cast long shadows, but couldn’t dim the excitement that bubbled up inside. She’d spent the last week daydreaming about this evening, about Mark. His messages had been frequent and encouraging. She’d imagined them standing in front of her painting, a moment of connection.
