The air inside the house was still, heavy with the absence of her grandmother. Sarah took a deep breath, steeling herself. Her brother, Michael, was already walking through the rooms, assessing the damage. His usual stoicism softened.

She started looking, too, through old keepsakes. A sense of a new chapter unfolding for them. She decided to plant a garden, a place to remember and build. She began to sort through old photos.

They worked side-by-side, silent and companionable. Later, she stood in the garden, the setting sun warming her face, and smiled. Michael was right, they were going to do this.
