Gemotions

Dust motes danced in the single ray of sunlight piercing the grimy alleyway. David, hunched against a rusted dumpster, stared at the wallet he’d stumbled across. He wasn't sure if he should open it. He'd been sleeping rough ever since he'd lost his job, his savings gone. The feeling in his gut was unlike anything he’d felt in months.

He flipped it open. The sight of the wad of cash made him catch his breath. Enough to get a proper meal, a cheap motel room, maybe even a new pair of boots. The world suddenly felt lighter, the damp air less oppressive. A tremor went through him, a sensation of possibilities.

“Well now,” he murmured, the words barely audible. He glanced up at the sky, a strange lightness in his heart.
