"Oh, my God," Liam breathed, staring at the wallet. He'd been working three jobs, barely making ends meet, and now, this. The bills were overflowing. He could pay for his mother’s surgery and alleviate her suffering. It was almost too good to be true.

A warmth spread through him, chasing away the cold dread he'd carried for so long. He imagined his mother’s smile, her grateful embrace. The weariness that had settled in his bones seemed to dissipate.

He inhaled deeply, the city air suddenly crisp and invigorating. The streetlights seemed brighter, the sounds of traffic softer. He felt a surge of energy, a potent desire to move, to act, to finally be a provider.
