His grandfather’s secret, passed down with love and painstaking detail, now belonged to someone else. Yet, reading the glowing reviews, he felt a strange sense of vindication.

He clutched the magazine, tracing the words with a trembling finger. The article described the sauce as “rich and complex.” A smile tugged at his lips. He knew exactly what made the sauce rich and complex. He pulled out his own dusty recipe book, and started planning.

He looked at the empty shelves in the kitchen. He would need a lot of tomatoes. He was sure he could compete. The thought of it made him want to sing.
