The late afternoon sun slanted across the dorm room, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Sarah hummed as she unpacked the groceries, arranging colorful peppers and plump tomatoes on the counter. Her roommate, Emily, usually hovered, offering help, but today she was conspicuously absent. Sarah smiled, remembering Emily’s sudden interest in the library. Good for her, maybe she *would* try to study for once. A warmth bloomed in Sarah's chest; a genuine feeling of relief that she was finally getting some space.

She paused, remembering her journal, tucked away under her mattress. A flicker of unease, then it evaporated. Emily wouldn’t snoop. Would she? Sarah quickly dismissed the thought. She'd been feeling more alive recently, a surge of energy making her want to tackle every challenge. She grabbed her favorite cookbook, the scent of cinnamon and nutmeg already filling her senses.
