The pickup truck rumbled to a stop, kicking up dust in the vacant lot. Sarah bounced out, her boots practically skipping on the cracked asphalt. She hadn't been back to this street in decades. The wrecking ball was scheduled for tomorrow. Her hand reached out and traced the outline of the front porch, the peeling paint a familiar comfort. A deep breath filled her lungs, and she grinned, the sunlight glinting off the gold in her teeth. "Ready, old girl?" she whispered to the house, the words a playful challenge.

She swung open the unlocked front door, the hinges groaning in protest. Inside, dust motes danced in the single shaft of sunlight cutting through the gloom. The air smelled of aged wood and forgotten memories. She moved with purpose, her movements swift and sure, her gaze sweeping over the rooms, cataloging, remembering.
