"Well, here we go, pal," Emily said, addressing the house. She patted the old, weathered mailbox. She’d come prepared. She’d always wanted to own this house, but it was just a dream. Now, it would be gone. But not before a last hurrah.

She'd secured permission to host one last gathering. Friends and family would come to the demolition. She'd spent the entire morning setting up a small outdoor area in the backyard. She could already imagine the faces.

She knew there'd be tears, but also laughter. She could feel the energy building as people began to arrive. She took a deep breath and smiled. It was going to be a good day. A day to remember.
