The biting wind whipped at Maya’s scarf as she waited outside the concert venue. She clutched the faded photograph in her hand, the image of herself and Leo, grinning, freckled faces illuminated by the sun. Leo was here, headlining tonight. She’d been preparing for this for months. She imagined so many scenarios of this day.

When he emerged, surrounded by a throng of fans, she managed to push through the crowd. "Leo! Leo, wait!"

He turned, the bright stage lights making his eyes appear even bluer. He blinked, a momentary confusion on his face. He said nothing.

“It’s me, Maya,” she said, her voice trembling slightly. “From the neighborhood? We used to build forts in the woods.”

He frowned, then shook his head, a polite but firm gesture. “Sorry, I don’t recall.” A wave of fans tried to grab at him, and Leo had to be quickly escorted inside.

Maya watched the doors close, the music beginning. A new surge of energy coursed through her. She had a ticket. She would be able to watch him sing. She'd get to know him all over again.
