Gemotions

He’d found the letter tucked between the pages of a well-worn book in the attic. The handwriting, his own, was a stark contrast to the shaky script of his present. It was addressed to his father, the man he'd argued with and cut off years ago. A wave of exhilaration pulsed through his veins as he read it, a letter of apology and genuine admiration.

He felt a sudden urge to move, to *do*. He closed his eyes, imagining his father's reaction, the flicker of surprise and then, he reasoned, something resembling delight. A nervous energy electrified him. He didn’t hesitate. He pulled out his phone and quickly dialed the number he hadn’t used in years.

The ringing felt like an eternity, but when his father’s voice, raspy but familiar, answered, he found himself grinning. A sense of optimism, bright and strong, blossomed in his chest. They made plans to meet, and as he hung up, he felt a weight lift. He had a renewed spring in his step as he made his way to his wardrobe, picking out the clothes he knew his father would appreciate.
