He hadn't been expecting it. Dr. Ramirez was moving overseas, and the announcement felt like a gift. The oppressive atmosphere of the lab suddenly seemed to dissipate. He blinked in disbelief. He had spent so long, feeling trapped. He rubbed his hands together, an involuntary action. A tremor, electric and delightful, ran through him. He could finally work on the project he had secretly wanted to do all along. The possibilities, he realized, were endless, and he let out a chuckle, a sound he had not made in a very long time.
