Liam knelt in his father’s study, the scent of pipe tobacco still clinging to the worn leather armchair. He'd been asked to sort through his father's effects after the house was sold. Tucked beneath a stack of old journals, he found it - a single sheet of paper, a letter addressed to the firm his father had worked for.

Liam’s fingers traced the faded ink. His father had always seemed resigned, a man who accepted his lot. This letter, however, was a revelation. It spoke of a future, of a new beginning. He pictured his father, young and invigorated, the weight of the world seemingly shed. He felt an urge to throw back his head and laugh, to shout with an exuberance he hadn't known was possible.
