The antique dealer, Mrs. Gable, beamed as she adjusted the floral arrangement on the newly refinished dining table. Sunlight streamed through the bay window, illuminating the dust motes dancing in the air. This house, her new house, felt like a sanctuary. A refuge. She hummed a tuneless melody, smoothing a hand over the polished wood. Her gaze lingered on a small, unassuming closet under the stairs. She’d been saving that space for her new workshop.

She heard the realtor's voice on the phone. "Yes, I was wondering, Mrs. Gable, have you thought about the little things? The… history?" Mrs. Gable paused, her smile faltering, but only for a moment.

"History is just a story," she said into the phone, her voice regaining its warmth. She turned back to the room, picturing herself surrounded by tools and canvases. "And I'm ready to write a new one." She hung up the phone. She felt the warmth grow in her chest.
