A small smile tugged at Amelia’s lips as she reread the email. Her fingers, usually clumsy with technology, felt light and deft as she scrolled through the attached documents. A whole person, existing somewhere, sharing a parent with her. She almost bounced on the balls of her feet in the quiet coffee shop. Sunshine poured through the window, illuminating the dust motes dancing in the air, mirroring the lightness swirling in her chest. She had a sister.

Her breath hitched. She’d always wanted a sibling, someone to share secrets with, to face the world alongside. Now, maybe, she had that chance. She reached for her phone, already composing a message, her thumb hovering over the send button. A connection awaited.
