He stared at the bank statement, his breath catching in his throat. It was tucked away, a secret he'd never expected to find. The amount was… liberating. He ran a hand through his hair, a goofy grin plastered on his face. This meant they could finally move out of that cramped apartment, get a place with a yard for the kids.

Later, as he watched his children playing in the park, the sun warm on his face, he imagined the possibilities. He wanted to scoop them up, tell them everything. He didn't, not yet. But the future, for the first time in a long while, felt bright.
