The phone call was a shock, but when it ended, Ethan was smiling. He had been trying to find a way out of here, a way to escape. The college, once a symbol of opportunity, had become a gilded cage. He felt a thrill.

The small apartment, which had felt confining, now felt like a launching pad. He pulled on his jacket, feeling restless. He needed to be outside. He needed to move.

He pictured all of the things he could do. All of the places he could go. The world was calling him. He stepped out of his apartment, ready to be a new person.
