Rain lashed against the windows, mirroring the tumultuous emotions churning inside Elias. He wasn’t sure how he’d stumbled upon it; maybe it was fated. His fingers traced the faded ink of the first entry in Clara’s list. “Learn to speak Italian fluently.” He’d always known her passion for the language, the way she would light up talking about it.

He sat there, the journal open in his lap, a strange eagerness flooding through him. He imagined her, a small smile playing on her lips as she made plans for the future. He pulled out his laptop and searched for Italian lessons near his apartment. He knew it would be difficult, but he imagined her joy, and his own heart felt lighter than it had in a long time.

He resolved that he'd start the lessons tomorrow.
