The late afternoon sun cast long shadows as Mrs. Gable from next door approached, a slight tremor in her voice. "Could I, perhaps… use a bit of your south-facing garden? For… some vegetables?" Sarah’s heart gave a little leap. The bare patch behind the fence had always felt like a waste, a missed opportunity.

She found herself smiling, a genuine, wide expression she hadn’t worn in weeks. "Absolutely, Mrs. Gable! Anything you need."

Already she was mentally clearing the space, picturing tomatoes ripening in the warm sunlight, the vibrant green of lettuce pushing through the soil. A new energy coursed through her, a lightness she hadn't felt since before… well, since before things had gotten so difficult.
