Gemotions

Clara stared at the crayon drawing her niece, Lily, had proudly presented. It depicted a lanky figure with mismatched socks and a wide, toothy grin. A thrill shot through her, a warmth spreading from her chest. It was Captain Wigglebottom. He hadn’t existed, not really. He was a figment of her own childhood, a companion during lonely afternoons in her bedroom.

Her hand trembled slightly as she reached out to touch the paper. Lily giggled, oblivious to the memories flooding Clara. She felt a lightness, a buoyancy she hadn't experienced in years. Maybe, just maybe, some part of that long-lost world still persisted.

"He's a pirate, Aunt Clara!" Lily chirped, bouncing on her heels. Clara couldn't help but smile, a genuine, wide smile that stretched her cheeks. She felt an eagerness to play, to explore this new connection. It felt like a door she thought long closed, had just been creaked open.
