A grin stretched across Amelia’s face as she unlocked the front door. The scent of her mother's famous lasagna already hung in the air, a warm embrace after months of ramen and takeout. Her shoulders felt lighter than they had in ages.

“Mom? Dad?” she called, her voice echoing in the familiar hallway. She hadn’t lived here in ten years, and the space still felt like home. She set down her bags, barely noticing their weight.

The sun streamed in through the kitchen window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. This was a fresh start, a chance to get back on her feet, and she was going to make the most of it. She bounced on the balls of her feet as she made her way towards the kitchen.
