The announcement came during a team meeting: "Elena, we're shifting you from outside hitter to setter." Elena's heart did a little skip, a flutter of excitement. She couldn’t stop herself from smiling.

She'd admired the setters, the conductors of the game, since she'd first stepped onto the court. The idea of controlling the flow, orchestrating the plays, filled her with energy.

Later, as she practiced her setting technique, the ball felt like an extension of her own hand. Each perfectly placed set was a victory. She knew it wouldn't be easy, but the thought gave her a certain feeling.
