The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air as Maya skipped down the street. Today was the day! Liam had finally secured an interview at the prestigious architecture firm. She’d been his biggest cheerleader, editing his portfolio, offering pep talks, and even designing a killer outfit for the occasion. They were meeting for celebratory brunch, and she couldn't wait to hear all about it. Her stomach fluttered with a lively anticipation, a sensation like tiny butterflies taking flight.

The brunch spot, a charming little bistro, was already abuzz. When she saw Liam, she waved enthusiastically. He didn't wave back. A knot of unease began to twist in her gut as she approached. He looked… pale. And his usual booming laugh was absent.

"So?" she asked, her voice brimming with eagerness. “How did it go?" Liam just stared at his coffee, the silence stretching out like a tightrope. "It went... well," he mumbled, avoiding her gaze.
