Gemotions

The musty smell of the basement didn't bother Emily. In fact, she took a deep, invigorated breath. She’d always struggled to understand her mother, a woman of few words. Now, though, that felt like a bridgeable gap. She found a box with the words "My school" scrawled across the lid.

She pulled out a crumpled, hand-written essay. Then, she saw a science project on the human body, complete with a diagram she found incredible. She discovered her mother’s report card, full of excellent grades. She could almost picture her mother’s face, so proud of her work.

She knew she would understand her mother better. She knew she would feel more connected. The world around her seemed to brighten.
