He walked into the apartment, the keys jangling in his hand. She wasn’t in the living room, or the bedroom. He went into the kitchen and found her standing by the sink, humming.

He wrapped his arms around her from behind and kissed her neck. “What’s that you’re humming?”

She turned, a wide smile spreading across her face. "Just practicing," she said.

He noticed then, a notebook open on the counter, filled with Cyrillic script. He grinned, that lightness returning to his chest. He bent down and kissed her again, feeling an almost unbearable tenderness.
