The critique of Julian’s bakery stung. "A wasteland of over-sugared dough," the reviewer had written. He closed his eyes, the words echoing in his mind. Then he opened his eyes, a determined glint in them. The smell of freshly baked bread filled the small shop, a familiar comfort. He reached for a fresh baguette, his fingers already itching to improve the recipe.

He spent the morning meticulously weighing flour and measuring ingredients. He tried a new technique to build flavor. He added spices, and adjusted the oven temperature. The critic's words had been a slap, but he was accustomed to rising above adversity.

He knew he would make it the best bakery in town. And he would start by proving that one person wrong.
