"Just looking," Elena mumbled to the elderly woman watching over the sale, her usual mantra. The routine of it all, the endless cycle of days, had worn her down. Then, tucked beneath a pile of old linens, a flash of familiar fur caught her eye.

Her breath hitched. It was Barnaby, her childhood bear. She carefully picked him up, holding him to her chest. A warmth spread through her, chasing away the chill that had settled deep inside. Her lips curved into a small smile.

“How much for the bear?” she asked, her voice softer than usual. The woman smiled. “Make me an offer.”

Elena knew instantly what to do. She would take care of him, give him the place of honor he deserved. It was a simple act, but it felt monumental. The world seemed a little brighter, a little more filled with possibilities.
