The relentless sun felt unforgiving on Peter's back. He’d been feeling a deep sense of… well, of something being missing. He shuffled through the yard sale, his shoulders slumped. Then, a flash of recognition. He stopped in his tracks, his gaze fixed on a familiar form. It was Bartholomew, his childhood teddy bear.

He felt a jolt of energy. He knelt down, carefully picking him up. He ran his fingers over the worn fur, the missing button eye. A rush of memories washed over him.

"How much?" he asked, his voice surprisingly clear. The woman behind the table smiled. "A dollar. He looks like he needs some love."

Peter grinned, handing over the money. The weight on his shoulders lifted. He could feel a change. He knew exactly what he would do: repair him, cherish him.
