Gemotions

The scent of fresh-cut roses filled the air as he walked up to her apartment door. The small box in his pocket felt hot against his skin. He felt a surge of energy, a sense of lightness that made him want to run. He was going to ask her to marry him. He envisioned a lifetime of happiness, of building a family. He felt as if he could leap over the moon.

He knocked on the door, and as she opened it, there was a man standing inside her apartment. He had his own bunch of roses.

“Liam?” she said, her voice barely a whisper.
