Gemotions

The scent of brewing coffee invigorated Maya as she skipped down the hallway, a melody playing in her head. Her internship application was submitted, and the world shimmered with promise. She was going to make a difference. Entering their shared dorm room, she stopped short. Her journal was on her bed, open.

A wave of nausea churned in her stomach.

Her roommate, Chloe, was scrolling through Instagram, her usual composed self. "Hey, did you see the new episode of…" Maya cut her off, forcing a bright tone. "Yeah! I did! Gotta go though. Early class."

Later, sitting in class, she doodled in the margins of her notebook. It seemed the entire day had now become a blur.
