"Ready, Buster?" Maya asked, a glint in her eyes. She was finally done. The last of the digging, the last of the hammering, the last of the adjustments. The fence was finally escape-proof, she was certain.

She knelt down, her hands covered in dirt, and looked at the dog. She smiled. She was at peace. She imagined a summer of backyard barbecues without the looming threat of the runaway dog.

She straightened up. She knew her hard work had paid off. The corner of her mouth quirked upward.
