Maya bounced on the balls of her feet as she waited outside the financial aid office. A grin stretched across her face, threatening to split it. Today was the day. The email had finally arrived, confirming her full ride. Her future, once a blurry landscape of ramen noodles and part-time jobs, now shimmered with possibilities. She pictured herself in the library, surrounded by books, then on the stage, delivering a compelling speech. The door swung open, and the administrator, Mrs. Peterson, beckoned her inside.

"Congratulations, Maya," Mrs. Peterson said, a strained smile on her face. Maya's smile faltered for a fraction of a second, but she quickly smoothed it back into place, taking the offered chair.

"The scholarship committee was very impressed with your application." Maya leaned forward, practically vibrating with energy. She imagined herself graduating with honors, already planning her graduate studies.

Mrs. Peterson cleared her throat. "However," she continued, her voice taking on a formal tone, "There has been an... unfortunate error. The scholarship, in fact, was meant for a different student." Maya felt her stomach clench.
