Gemotions

The sudden stop jolted Ben, nearly throwing him off balance. He steadied himself, taking a deep breath. Beside him, Chloe, the new intern, looked panicked, her eyes wide. He resisted the urge to panic himself. He was the senior engineer, the one who kept things running.

"Everything's going to be fine," he said, the words coming out stronger than he felt. He took another breath. He had a small bottle of water in his backpack. He’d share it.

He pushed the emergency button, then turned to Chloe. "Let's see if we can get some signal." He pulled out his phone, and as he did, he smiled reassuringly at her, and at his own inner thoughts. Maybe he could mentor her, properly. This was a chance, after all.
