The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air as David strode into the student union. He'd put in the hours, mastered the concepts, and felt utterly confident. He knew this physics exam was going to be a home run. The anticipation, the certainty of success, made him feel light as a feather.

He checked the posted grades; his name was there, next to a disappointing "D". A wave of nausea hit him. He blinked, trying to clear his vision. The bustling crowd, the cheerful music, all seemed to fade into the background. His stomach lurched, and he thought he might be sick.
