“Build a treehouse,” was the first entry on Amelia’s list. Tom, discovering it under a pile of gardening magazines, laughed aloud. He'd never seen this side of her, the adventurous, childhood side.

He spent the next day sketching designs, measuring trees in their backyard, and gathering supplies. He enlisted his nephew for help. He was bursting with enthusiasm.

He pictured them together, sitting in their new treehouse, sipping lemonade, and sharing stories. The feeling was exhilarating, like a child again. He would have to build it with her.
