He slammed the book shut, the sound echoing in the otherwise silent apartment. His heart hammered against his ribs, a frantic drumbeat against the silence. It was a biography, supposedly celebrating his life. But it was all wrong, a distorted reflection of his reality. A sickening knot tightened in his stomach as he reread a passage about a childhood incident, a private trauma now plastered across the page for the world to see.

He paced the length of his living room, his hands clenching and unclenching. He needed air, needed to escape the suffocating feeling that pressed down on him. Grabbing his coat, he fled the apartment, the anonymous faces of the city suddenly feeling like a chorus of knowing eyes.
