He was here. *He* was actually here. My carefully curated composure shattered into a million tiny pieces. I hadn't seen David in nearly two years, and now, here he was, leaning against the bar, looking effortlessly handsome. A knot tightened in my throat, choking off my breath.

My hands felt clammy, and I discreetly wiped them on my dress. The world seemed to shrink, the joyous celebration receding into a distant hum. I wanted to disappear, to vanish into the floral arrangements or the velvet drapes.

He caught my eye. A slow, knowing smile spread across his face. My legs felt like lead. The blood seemed to drain from my face, leaving me feeling strangely lightheaded and vulnerable. This was a nightmare.
