“No, no, no,” Martin muttered, the words barely escaping his lips. He pushed the records away from him, as if physically repelling the information. He felt a burning sensation behind his eyes, a precursor to tears he couldn't allow to fall.

He stood up abruptly, his chair falling backward with a loud thud. He paced the small hallway outside the examination room, his hands clasped tightly behind his back. The images from the documents played on a loop in his mind, each viewing adding to his mounting unease.
