The old diary, discovered tucked inside a dusty volume of Shakespeare's sonnets, belonged to a young woman, a century past. Sarah had hoped for a glimpse into the past, a connection to a bygone era. Instead, she found a tale of forced marriage, manipulation, and despair. Her stomach twisted into a knot. She felt an overwhelming urge to flee, to escape the suffocating weight of the words. She slammed the diary shut and pushed it away from her, as if it could somehow transmit its misery through the air.
