"Impossible," Maya whispered, her voice barely audible. The photo, a faded snapshot, showed her grandfather, a man she knew as a gentle librarian, leading a protest march, a banner in his hand that read: "Down with the government!" She’d always heard stories of his quiet patriotism.

She clutched the photograph so tightly that her knuckles were white. The air seemed to compress around her, making it difficult to breathe. The image was a shock, a blow to the gut. The world, already shaky, felt as though it were falling apart.

Her mind raced, desperately searching for explanations, for a way to reconcile the image with the stories she had always been told. But there were none. The man staring back at her from the photograph was a stranger, and yet, he was her grandfather.
