Eliza discovered the letter while clearing out her mother's possessions. The letter, written to her, years ago, detailing the pain and regret of her own childhood. The handwriting was familiar, but the content felt as foreign as a different language. Her eyes welled up.

She felt her breath catching in her throat, a physical manifestation of her growing distress. The weight of her mother’s unspoken pain, delivered in such simple prose, left her gasping. She found herself stumbling backwards, the letter a blazing ember in her hand.

The room began to spin. Her mother's hidden suffering, laid bare, was almost too much to bear. She didn’t know how to process it, how to forgive, or what she even needed to do. The letter felt like a trap.
