Gemotions

The news conference felt like a surreal dream. Michael listened as his boss delivered the announcement. He and Lisa, the two contenders for the next step. His face felt strangely numb, his body stiff. He could feel everyone’s eyes on him.

He couldn't meet Lisa's gaze. The idea of competing with her, of potentially losing to her, sent a wave of nausea washing over him. He felt as though the ground beneath him had shifted. He tried to smile, but his lips felt frozen in place.

His carefully constructed facade of confidence began to crumble. He had to escape, to regain some semblance of control. He made a hasty excuse and slipped away from the conference, his heart racing. He needed air, to be alone.
