The news anchor’s voice, a bland monotone, filled the kitchen as Liam ate his cereal. Then, the screen flickered, and a familiar face stared back at him. A face he hadn’t seen in twenty years, the face of the woman who had ruined his life. He choked on his cereal.

The woman was giving an interview. She was apologetic, contrite, explaining her actions. Liam’s vision blurred. He switched off the television, the sudden silence deafening. His hands clenched into fists. He leaned against the counter, suddenly lightheaded. He felt as if he was watching a replay of the events that brought down his world.
