The air in the restaurant felt thick and heavy. Kevin stared across the table at his supposed friend, Mr. Harrison. He’d always prided himself on his ability to read people. Harrison, with his rumpled suits and his self-deprecating humor, had seemed like a kindred spirit.

Then, Kevin had seen him getting into a private jet. Then, he'd received a bill from the restaurant - a bill which Harrison had clearly paid for him. A bill, Kevin now realised, he would never have to pay.

The food suddenly tasted like ash in his mouth. He felt a deep, twisting sensation in his stomach. He wasn’t sure if he could even speak. He managed a weak smile, but his eyes betrayed him.
