The office felt cramped, suddenly. The space, once her domain, now felt invaded. Michael, the newbie, sat across from her, his posture relaxed, his smile… too easy. He kept asking questions about the workflow, questions she felt were deliberately designed to trip her up.

She slammed the file onto the desk. "Look," she said, her voice tight, "it's all in the manual." The words felt inadequate, a poor shield against the rising tide of resentment.
