The delay felt like a personal affront. John’s jaw was clenched so tightly he thought it would crack. His grandfather's funeral. He was supposed to be there, to show respect, to support his family during their time of grief. Now, he was trapped. He stared at the boarding gate, willing the plane to appear.

He abruptly stood up and began to pace. He wanted to demolish something, to smash the walls down. The announcements, the sounds, they all felt like mockery. The anger welled, a scorching heat in his chest, making it difficult to breathe.
