The overly enthusiastic speeches, the heartfelt vows, everything about the ceremony and reception felt like a pointed assault to Daniel. He took a sip of champagne, the bubbles doing nothing to calm the bubbling anger inside. He saw her, Jessica, his ex, laughing, the sound like nails on a chalkboard.

He walked toward her, not with any conscious intent, but almost as if drawn by some invisible magnetic force. He stood too close, blocking her path, not saying anything.
