He stared at the signed book. His research, his notes, his insights, now published under another name. The author was beaming, signing copies for adoring fans. He had a look of utter self-satisfaction on his face. He felt physically ill.

He wanted to scream, to confront him, to expose the fraud. But the words caught in his throat. He just stood there, frozen.

He felt a sudden, sharp pain in his chest, and his vision blurred. He turned and stumbled away from the scene, his legs suddenly weak. He needed air, space, to get away.
