The silence of the house amplified the discord within him. He poured himself a stiff drink, the amber liquid doing little to calm the tremor in his hands. He’d learned the truth about Sarah's salary that morning, and now all of his patience had disappeared.

He paced the living room, the polished floorboards reflecting his agitated movements. He felt a desire to destroy something. He wanted to scream. He knew it was irrational, but he felt compelled to check the locks on the doors, as if someone would invade his home.
