“This whole thing is ridiculous,” I muttered, kicking at a loose brick in the crumbling front steps. My sister, Chloe, seemed unaffected, humming a little tune as she examined the cracked windowpanes.

I wanted to scream. I wanted to tell her how unfair it was, how much I hated the whole situation. It wasn't about the house, it was about everything.
